The Hanotimes-  One hundred percent of households across the country will have access to various forms of digital television by 2020.

This target was set during an online conference held in Ha Noi by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) to implement the project on digitalizing the country’s terrestrial television transmission and broadcasting services.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan urged local radio and television stations to submit their preliminary plans for participating in the project to the MIC before this coming June.

The MIC will co-ordinate with local broadcasting stations and transmission companies to map out a plan for the national television system and submit it to the Prime Minister in September of this year, he added.

The Deputy PM also asked the MIC to design detailed financial mechanisms for each region to support businesses operating in TV broadcasting and transmission as well as TV users, particularly those in poor households in disadvantaged areas.

The Prime Minister-approved TV digitalization project will enhance the quality of the country’s terrestrial TV transmission and broadcasting system by applying modern digital technology instead of the current analogue mode.

It also aims to develop the digital terrestrial television market in an effort to reorganize and improve the professionalism of the national radio and television system.
