During the meeting with the senior officer, the Dutch Ambassador made the remark the Netherlands wishes to expand relations with Vietnam, including cooperation in peacekeeping activities between the two countries’ armies, said Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Nienke Trooster.

She said defence cooperation between the two countries has contributed to enhancing bilateral ties. Briefing the host on the results of a working session between the delegation and representatives of Vietnam’s Peace Keeping Centre, the Ambassador said the two sides agreed to boost exchanges of experts, experience sharing and training support for peacekeeping. She also expressed her joy at Vietnam’s successes in UN peacekeeping operations over the last three years.

For his part, Sen. Lieut. Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh lauded the ability and experience of the Dutch Army in humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping. The two defence ministries have considered the UN peacekeeping cooperation as a priority in defence ties between the two countries, he said, stressing the need for the two sides to enhance experience sharing and exchange of delegations at all levels.

Vietnam appreciates the country’s strength and experience in the fields of strategic partnership cooperation. He believed that when the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement takes effect, it will open up many new cooperation opportunities for the two countries’ business communities.
