Cinema Weekend: “The Deserted Valley” (2001)
In the November edition of Cinema Weekend TPD will host the screening of The Deserted Valley directed by Pham Nhue Giang.

The Deserted Valley tells the story of a school in the mountainous regions – where there are only 3 teachers working and living. They are Mr. Tanh – the principal (Nguyen Hau), Ms. Giao (Hong Anh) and Ms. Minh (Tuyet Hanh). Their teaching routine in the mountainous villages is told through such trivial details: internal and external conflicts, affection, anger, etc.
Released in 2001, The Deserted Valley received wide acclaim. The film was shown in film festivals in China, Singapore, Australia, South Korea, received the FIPRESCI Award at Melbourne International Film Festival, an Award from Vietnam Cinema Association, and the Silver Lotus Award for the 13th Vietnam Film Festival.

Italian Cultural Fair – Piazza Italia 2018
Within the framework of the 45th anniversary of Italy - Vietnam diplomatic relations and building on the remarkable success of last year’s Italy - ASEAN Week, the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi has prepared a rich and multifaceted calendar of events aimed at showcasing the best of the Italian lifestyle, or in Italian words “vivere all’italiana”, to bring Italy closer than ever to the Vietnamese public.

The program lasts from November 2 to November 11 and incorporate many activities pertaining to the “3rd Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World”.
“Italian Cultural Fair/Piazza Italia”: on November 10 and 11, the prestigious Hanoi Imperial Citadel will be turned into an Italian square (“Piazza Italia”) specially designed to take the public along an extraordinary path featuring: booths for Italian food & wine tasting (with the participation of the Italian gastronomical champions in Hanoi), exhibitions of Italian design creations (by the main Italian companies operating in Vietnam and by Vietnamese partners).
In addition, it will feature many diverse musical performances (with diva Hong Nhung & Italian and Vietnamese opera singers), sports activities (the youngest will be offered a special chance to play football coached by a selected number of trainers from Juventus F.C. Academy, as well as volleyball, badminton and sepak takraw), funny entertainment (karaoke contest, “tombola” game and many activities specifically designed for kids).
This innovative and ambitious program, expressly tailor-made to meet the expectations of the Vietnamese public, will be made possible thanks to the support of the Hanoi People’s Committee, as well as of all the players of the Italian System in Vietnam and of the enthusiastic sponsors.

BIS Hanoi International Festival 2018
The 7th annual British International School BIS Hanoi International Festival is around the corner, celebrating the different cultures at the school and raising money to support charity projects. Last year, the BIS Hanoi International Festival welcomed over 2,000 visitors from a wide-range of nationalities and we expect over 2,500 people to attend this year.

At the festival, guests will enjoy exciting live performances by talented BIS Hanoi students and other international schools and organizations in Hanoi. It is a great opportunity to learn more about other cultural identities and admire traditional dresses from other countries as Russia, South Korea, Japan, Spain, Brazil and England.
The food market is a highlight of the event with many Hanoi restaurants present – O’Leary’s, Doki Doki Sushi Club, Ky Y, Gelato Italia, Namaste, Little India, etc. They will bring out their most flavorful cuisines and specialties to the event so that guests could experience tasty dishes from different cultures.
Joining the celebration, visitors can also participate in fun and educational activities such as clay statue painting, face painting, sand art, Henna, etc. Additionally, boutiques such as Quilts & Art, Kym Viet, Ekoko Vietnam, 5 Mart – Organic House will be selling traditional crafts, natural handmade cosmetics, organic products, charming clothing, stunning embroidery etc. Get ready for a fun morning of shopping!!!
The BIS community partners will be there to raise awareness of their work and support local charities. Some of these include Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, School on the Boat, Education for Nature Vietnam and Asia Animal Foundation.

UK’s Inspire Me Festival
A string of activities will take place within the framework of the Inspire Me Festival 2018 to be held for the first time in Hanoi from November 9 to 11 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-UK diplomatic ties.

The festival, to be held right in the heart of the city, is part of the Inspire Me 2018 series jointly organized by the UK Embassy in Hanoi and the municipal People’s Committee.
“Innovation”, “Gender Equality”, and “Say No to Single-Use Plastic Products” are the three main themes of the festival which comprises of 56 pavilions of British enterprises operating in the fields of culture, education, science-technology, fashion and trade.
Visitors to the festival will be able to watch a fashion show with a combination of Vietnam’s traditional “ao dai” (long dress) and well-known UK brands, the finale of a music contest, an outdoor screening, a photo exhibition featuring the UK’s landscape and culture, and a Premier League livestream.
Several talks on Holographic 3D technology, computing technology by 2025, vocational guidance, health, and gender equality at workplace are also expected to take place within the framework of the festival.
