Leipzig last week became the first German city to open a representative office in Vietnam, with an aim to strengthen the trade and investment relationship between Leipzig and Vietnam, as well as link and support companies of both countries.

Establishing a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City is one important step to strengthen the relationship between Vietnam and Leipzig in the fields of business cooperation, investments, renewable energy, automobile, education and training, as well as research and development cooperation.
Within the past years, the economy of Leipzig rapidly grew and transformed the city into one of the strongest cities in Germany. The metropolis in the Federal State Saxony is not only characterized by its 500,000 residents but also by its outstanding economic and employment growth, as well as excellent infrastructure. The key sectors are the automobile industry, logistics, health economy, biotechnology, energy and environmental technology, as well as media.
Leipzig is also one of the most popular student cities in Germany. Up to 30,000 new students register to the university and HTWK Leipzig yearly.
Vietnam and Leipzig have a long-term relationship, not only in the business but also in other areas like education, cultural and technology exchanges.
In 2015, Ho Chi Minh City and Leipzig signed a memorandum of understanding, in which the cooperation of both cities in the following fields are in focus, such as health economy, energy and environmental technology, sustainable urban development, science, as well as education and training.
