Vietnam Airlines transported 5 million passengers in the first quarter of 2018

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines earned syndicated revenue of VND25.5 trillion (US$1.1 billion) in the first quarter of 2018.

Of this figure, pre-tax syndicated profit is estimated at VND1.4 trillion (US$64 million), reaching 6.2% of its yearly target, according to Vietnam Airlines.

In which, the parent, National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, made VND18.6 trillion (US$818 million), up 13% year-on-year, earning pre-tax profit of VND875 billion (US$38 million) up 30% year-on-year and reaching 13% of its yearly target.
In the first quarter of 2018, Vietnam Airlines undertook 33.000 safe flights, up 4.3% year-on-year. In which, the carrier transported 5 million passengers, up 5% year-on-year.
At the same time, Vietnam Airlines announced Australian-Vietnamese Chef Luke Nguyen as its Global Cuisine Ambassador with further promoting Vietnamese cuisine and culture to the world. In the three years from 2018 to 2020, Luke Nguyen will take an important role in improving the quality of in-flight meals for Vietnam Airlines. The “culinary magician” will create 8 new dishes featuring the regions of Vietnam (North, Central, South, and Hue) for Business Class.
In addition, Vietnam Airlines and AFI KLM E&M have signed a long term flight hour support contract covering the GEnx engines equipping the Vietnamese flag carrier’s fleet of Boeing 787s, which will grow to 19 Aircraft by 2021. The signing ceremony was witnessed by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and President of the National Assembly of France Francoi de Rugy within the framework of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France.
Under the US$500 million contract, AFM KLM E&M will handle maintenance of Vietnam Airlines’ 787 GEnx engines for 12 years. AFI KLM E&M also provides spare engine access for Vietnam Airlines to guarantee seamless continuity of its operations.
