Foreign tourist arrivals in Vietnam increase in quality and quantity
In the first nine months of 2018, Vietnam`s tourism authorities have made a lot of efforts to promote the country`s image, and achieved remarkable results.
The number of foreign visitors to Vietnam has increased rapidly in terms of quantity and quality, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said at a press conference held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on October 16.
Accordingly, the number of foreign holidaymakers to Vietnam in the first nine months of 2018 was estimated at 11.7 million, up 22% over the same period in 2017; domestic tourists are estimated at 62.1 million (guests staying at 30.2 million). Total revenue from tourists reached VND451 trillion (US$19 billion), up 20% over the same period in 2017.
In recent years, foreign tourist arrivals to Vietnam have grown rapidly. In 2016, the number of foreign visitors to Vietnam reached over 10 million, up 26% compared with 2015. In 2017, the figures were estimated at 12.9 million and 29.1%, respectively.
According to a survey conducted by VNAT in 2017, the percentage of foreign holidaymakers coming to Vietnam at least twice reached 40.9%, up from 33.0% in 2014.
In addition, the number of tourist accommodation establishments is constantly being expanded. In 2011, the country had 13,000 tourist accommodation facilities with 265,000 rooms; in 2017 this number was 25,600 establishments with 508,000 rooms.
The increase in quality has contributed to the increase in total revenue from tourism. In 2017, the total revenue from tourists reached VND541 trillion (US$23 billion), up 29.7% over 2016. Of the sum, revenue from international visitors in 2017 reached VND316 trillion (US$13 billion), up 31.1% compared with 2016 and 60% over 2015.
In the last three months of 2018, Vietnam's tourism industry will focus on performing tasks and solutions to maintain the growth rate of international tourists, domestic tourists and total revenue from tourists.
The induystry will strive to reach the goal of welcoming 94 million visitors this year, including about 16 million foreign visitors and 78 million domestic visitors. Total revenue from visitors is set to reach VND620 trillion (US$26 billion).
During the press conference, officials of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism informed that the ATF 2019 ASEAN Tourism Forum will be hosted by Vietnam from January 16 to 18 in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province.
