Hanoi prioritizes to develop high-quality tourism products

In 2017, Hanoi Department of Tourism will promote the collaboration with cities and provinces nationwide in developing high-quality and highly competitive tourism products with special focus on culture, according to Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Do Dinh Hong.

The capital city of Hanoi has continued affirming itself as a leading tourism hub in the north as well as the country with the reception of four million international tourists for the first time in 2016.
In 2016, the municipal Department of Tourism hosted successfully an array of key events such as the "Hanoi Memories" programme, "Friendship Spring travel" activity and Vietnam traditional craft villages tourism festival in Hanoi.
Besides, during the year, Hanoi's tourism proposed the extending of walking streets around Hoan Kiem Lake, which was piloted from the beginning of September, creating a new space for cultural activities and entertainment for both locals and international visitors to the capital city.
The department actively made the advise to the city's authorities promote the image of the capital on the CNN channel.
Hanoi city has earned nearly 62 trillion VND from tourism last year, up 12% year on year, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

The city drew more than 21.8 million visitors, with over 4 million international visitor arrivals, up 23% compared to the same period in 2015.  
Currently, the number of domestic tourists to Hanoi accounts for about 30% of the total visitors in the country. International visitors to the city make up nearly 40% of the country's foreign tourists.
In 2017, Hanoi will strive to attract about 23.61 million tourists, with as many as 4.3 million international arrivals, with total tourism revenues reaching over VND66 trillion, an increase of 8% year on year.
The municipal tourism sector will focus on the implementation of the Resolution No.06 of the City Party Committee on tourism development for 2016-2010 period and the following years with the aims to gradually bring the sector into a spearhead economic field  of the capital.
Hanoi is one of the first localities nationwide to establish the Department of Tourism and launch various kinds of products and services such as Ba Vi ecotourism site, Hanoi emotion programme, craft village tourism, Hanoi memories event, and Hanoi traditional “ao dai” festival.

The capital city plans to develop the Ba Vi – Suoi Hai tourism site, Son Tay - Ba Vi tourism cluster, and Duong Lam ancient village, as well as domestic and international tours.
Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Do Dinh Hong said the capital is developing high-quality and highly competitive tourism products with special focus on culture.
Hanoi's tourism targets to earn over VND110 trillion to VND120 trillion by 2020.
In order to achieve the envisaged goals, Hanoi will focus on building, planning and investing in developing tourism products, while calling on strategic investors to be involved in developing tourism in the West Lake and Red River areas in preparation for establishing an exclusive tourist zone in Dong Anh district.
Hanoi will also collaborate with cities and provinces across the country in developing tourism products, standardise and issue presentations at tourist attractions across the locality, and build a digital map of Hanoi based on geographic information systems (GIS) technology.
Tourism promotion activities will be organised in collaboration with embassies and international organisations in Hanoi with the aims to strengthen connections, advertise and co-operate in tourism development with international markets and vice versa.
In addition to participating in international tourism fairs with a focus on the main markets of France, the UK, Germany, the US, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, as well as ASEAN countries,
Over the past time, Hanoi proactively promoted tourism in key global tourism markets such as Russia, France, and Japan through closely cooperating with foreign diplomatic representative offices and international organisations in the city, and Vietnamese embassies and international tourism agencies abroad.
The city will also organise annual domestic events such as the "Memory of Hanoi" programme, the Hanoi Traditional Craft Village Festival, the Ao Dai Festival and the ceremony to welcome the first international tourist to Hanoi.
The city will provide support and remove difficulties for enterprises, organisations and individuals joining tourism development, enhance State management over tourism and train qualified human resources for the sector.
