The Netherlands is willing to support Hanoi in numerous areas, especially smart city development, said outgoing Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Nienke Trooster during her meeting with Hanoi Mayor on June 13.
It has been known that Hanoi is striving to a smart city in the region, Ambassador Nienke Trooster noted, while briefing that Amsterdam, Netherlands’ capital city, has vast experience in the area and is ready to connect the Vietnamese city with its expert network and enterprises in related fields.
She also suggest a model called “airport city” in which aviation logistics infrastructure is enhanced.
Other potential cooperation areas between Hanoi and the Netherlands’ localities, according to the ambassador, include water, climate change response, sustainable agriculture, under the cooperation framework signed between Vietnam and the Netherlands.
For his part, Hanoi Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung affirmed his agreement, on behalf of the local government, with suggestions of the ambassador, saying that within the development plan until 2020, the city sets priority to apply and transfer advanced technology from the European countries, Netherlands included.
“Hanoi always hopes to receive support from the Netherlands in solving urban sewage, garbage, and improving infrastructure, among others,” Chung added.
The Hanoi official also highly spoke of efforts made by the Dutch ambassador during her term in Vietnam and hailed activities held by the Dutch embassy in Hanoi as practical moves, contributing largely to promoting investment, tourism and development of the city and its relation with the European Union (EU).
These efforts, according to Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung, serve as platforms for the ties of Vietnam and the Netherlands to go into a more practical and effective phase.
He also expressed the wish that Ms. Nienke Trooster would keep bridging Hanoi and Dutch partners, even after her leaving Vietnam for new mission.
