At a meeting with Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Hung on June 28, Executive Director of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) Mark Watts urged Hanoi leaders to enhances cooperation with C40 on climate change response.
At the meeting, the two sides exchanged and shared views on the climate change combat so that C40 can help the capital fulfil this goal.
C40 Executive Director Mark Watts said that with abundant financial resources, the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) could help Hanoi with climate change response. He also pledged to provide support for C40 member cities in environmental protection as they committed.
Mark Watts, therefore, wants Hanoi to actively exchange and share the contents of the city's climate change plan so that the C40 can help Hanoi achieve this goal.
During the working session, C40 representatives suggested enhancing cooperation and use of renewable energies in Vietnam and Hanoi in particular.
For his part, Hung said Hanoi will make a list of specific items seeking assistance from C40 in climate change response.
Hung also said that Hanoi has invested in urban development in tandem with sustainably environmental protection, adding that the city has focused on handling water and air pollution, plastic waste, exhaust fumes and dust.
At the same time, the city is seeking ways to use renewable energies in order to reduce gas emissions, the official said.
To implement the climate action plan in the city, Hanoi is developing many specific projects for each task and is studying the budget for the project. In the process, Hanoi wishes to have interest and financial support, especially from C40 networks, Hung said.
In agreement with the proposals from Hanoi authority, Mark Watts said that Hanoi's climate change combat campaign will be the first target to receive cooperation and support from the C40 networks.
