Hanoi wishes to further promote friendly cooperation with counterparts in Turkey, Switzerland and Belgium for the purpose of the city’s socio-economic development.That was the goal of a working visit by a Hanoi high-ranking delegation to Turkey, Switzerland and Belgium, led by Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dao Duc Toan, September 26 to October 6, 2018.
In the framework of the visit, the delegation held meetings with authorities and specialized agencies of Ankara and Istanbul (Turkey), Bern state (Switzerland) and Bruxelles (Belgium).
The delegation exchanged experience and developed cooperation opportunities with other countries in the fields of population management, development and implementation of social policies, dealing with issues of urban security, preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage works, organizing and managing cultural and artistic activities. Attending the delegation's working sessions were the Vietnamese Ambassadors in Turkey, Switzerland and Belgium.
The two capitals’ cooperation to boost good Vietnam - Turkey relations
In Turkey, the delegation met with Vice Mayor of Ankara on September 27, during which the two sides shared experience in development policies and local governance, particularly in the fields of infrastructure and social welfare.

At a working session with First Deputy Mayor of Istanbul Ahmet Selamet, Dao Duc Toan strongly recommended that Hanoi and Istanbul further their bilateral partnership in all aspects in the context of the growing ties between Vietnam and Turkey, as seen through the Turkish Prime Minister’s visit to Vietnam in August 2017 and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan’s visit to Turkey in October 2018.
The Istanbul deputy mayor introduced the city’s potential and strengths to the guests, and expressed the wish to gain more information about policies on foreign investment of Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular.
Hanoi and Bern state enhance cooperation
During their stay in Switzerland, the Hanoi delegation had a working session on October 1 with Thomas Moser, official in charge of communications and external relations of Bern state.
The delegation affirmed Bern’s experiences in urban administration are useful for Hanoi in implementing its pilot project on urban administration.

Hanoi to expand cooperation with Brussels
In Brussels, the delegation held a meeting with officials of the Wallonie-Bruxelles region, during which the two sides reviewed the cooperation between the two sides under a deal signed between Hanoi and the Wallonie-Bruxelles.
The meeting also pinpointed areas for future cooperation which will be included in an agreement to be signed between Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment and the region this November.
The Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee said he wished the two sides would boost collaboration in cultural heritage conservation, cultural and art exchange, and education-training. He also asked the Wallonie-Bruxelles region to assist Hanoi in addressing waste treatment, animal husbandry and animal slaughter, which are the region’s strengths.
Promoting cooperation through Vietnam’s embassies in the countries
In addition to the meetings with foreign partners, the delegation visited and worked with Vietnamese diplomatic missions in such countries as the Embassy of Vietnam in Turkey, Switzerland and Belgium, the Vietnamese Standing Mission to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and other international organizations.
At the meetings, delegations and diplomatic missions exchanged information on Hanoi's socio-economic situation, key tasks and policies for the development of the capital in the coming time.
Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dao Duc Toan suggested the ambassadors, the heads of the Vietnamese diplomatic missions in Turkey, Switzerland and Belgium to support cooperation promotion between Hanoi and other countries’ counterparts, contributing to Vietnam's diplomatic development.
