The 49-year-old chief is also a deputy of the National Assembly and former commander of Military Zone 2.
The General Staff under the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense has appointed Major General Nguyen Hong Thai as chief of Hanoi Capital High Command.
Thai holds the position in replacement of Major General Nguyen Doan Anh, who has been appointed to commander of Military Zone 4.
The handover ceremony last week marked the presence of Senior Lieut. General Phan Van Giang, chief of the General Staff, Hanoi’s Party Chief Hoang Trung Hai, Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairwoman of the municipal People's Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc.
Speaking at the event, the city’s party chief Hoang Trung Hai expected that the new commander would help reinforce the capital high command and contribute to Hanoi’s development.
Hanoi Capital High Command, which was renamed and rearranged from Military Zone of Hanoi Capital in July 2008, is tasked to organize, build, manage, and command armed forces defending the capital city.
The command is said to have a taskforce of 15,000 people.
