Hanoi should focus on speeding up the progress of key traffic projects, closely coordinate with the Ministry of Transport to speed up in the city’s projects invested by the ministry.
Hanoi aims to reduce traffic accidents by 5-10% in 2019 in all three criteria which are number of cases, number of deaths and number of injuries.
The target was announced at a ceremony held on January 4 to kick off the 2019 traffic safety year under the theme of “Traffic safety for passengers and drivers”, with the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, who is chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee.
Binh said that the target could be reached with the resolute implementation of comprehensive measures on traffic accident prevention and control and with the participation of the whole political system and society.
To achieve that goal, Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh asked Hanoi’s functional departments to continue promoting consciousness for drivers, taking measures to ensure traffic safety on roads and railways to keep order and traffic safety in the city.
On behalf of the city’s leaders, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung expressed his gratitude to the Deputy PM and leaders of the Ministry of Transport and the National Traffic Committee for their regular attention to help Hanoi ensure traffic order and safety, step by step overcome traffic congestion in the city.
Chung asked the city’s departments, branches and socio-political organizations to focus on drastically and effectively implementing some key tasks.
He noted that Hanoi should focus on speeding up the progress of key traffic projects, closely coordinate with the Ministry of Transport to speed up in the city’s projects funded by the ministry.
Particularly, it is necessary to develop a plan to ensure the connection of Cat Linh - Ha Dong urban railway with other modals of transport in the city and in that way making the full use of the urban railway, Chung asked.
Hanoi needs to implement plans for organizing transportation, restricting traffic congestion, dealing with 8-10 points of traffic congestion (including remaining congestion points and new arising points) and spots with high occurence of traffic accidents, strengthening maintenance of bridges and roads to ensure traffic safety.
The city keeps implementing components of smart transport system in the overall project of smart city, which embraces building a digital database on transport infrastructure and means of transport, installing camera systems for traffic management and operation in the 12 inner districts, expanding the application of electronic ticket card system.
Especially, Hanoi’s authority needs to promote propaganda and dissemination of traffic culture in all strata in accordance with the theme of “Traffic safety for passengers and drivers”, the city mayor said.
