Hanoi will continue to develop smart city, upgrade water supply and drainage infrastructure, and improve environment, making it a city with modern and synergistic infrastructure, said the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung at the High-level Dialogue on ASEAN – Italy Economic Relations on June 6.
On Hanoi's achievements after 30 years of the renewal process and global integration, Chung stressed that with the economic growth rate over 7.4% from 2011 to 2018, Hanoi is identified as one of the two major economic hubs of Vietnam. In 2018, the city contributed 16.63% to the country's GDP and 17.19% to the national budget.
On cooperation with Italy, Nguyen Duc Chung pointed out that Italian businesses are investing in 26 projects in Hanoi with total registered capital of more than US$39 million. Besides, Italian investors have also contributed capital and bought shares worth over US$3.2 million in seven Vietnamese enterprises.
According to Hanoi's mayor, the European Union − Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) will be a key driver to boost Vietnam's growth and development in all sectors and fields as well as improve the business environment comprehensively and institutional structure.
He also stressed that Hanoi will continue to improve mechanisms and policies, focus on creating more revenues, mobilize social resources to boost the construction of infrastructure in urban areas including equipping urban lighting with LEDs; planting 1.6 million trees by 2020; supplying clean water to 100% of its population by 2020, among others.
In addition, the chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee pledged that Hanoi will be a worth-living city and a place of investment, business, tourism, attractive and successful for domestic and foreign businesses.
Earlier, during the meeting with Enrico Letta, a former prime minister of Italy and now president of the Italy-ASEAN Association, Nguyen Duc Chung said that Hanoi expects to cooperate with Italy in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry, interior design, fashion, renovation of old town, architecture, as well as building smart city and subway lines.
