8x and 9x staff can complement mutually in creative innovation field

Startups are not only the exclusive places for the 9x generation because those internet-based operations need to be developed on a large scale and gain growth in various aspects, as a result, the older 8x people are also an indispensable resource.

When it comes to generation gap among Millennials, whose birthdates were between 1980 to 2000 in the creative innovation field, 8x and 9x generations (Vietnamese terms for people who were born in the 1980s and 1990s) can work together and help each other overcome weaknesses to build up the work environment, said Christy Trang Le, CEO of GoViet, at the Hanoi Innovation Summit 2019 on August 30 when sharing her experience on running a startup of 8x and 9x staff.

She acknowledged that Vietnam is a country of young population with forceful manpower.  Several leaders and employees in startup firms are between 19 to 29 years old and the rate of internet users among Vietnamese youngsters is very high. They know the internet well and how to operate businesses on this platform.

However, startups are not only the exclusive places for 9x generation because those internet-based operations need to be developed on a large scale and gain growth in various aspects, as a result, the older 8x people are also an indispensable resource. 

Regarding internet, 9x people may quickly sense how people use and interact with the platform, but they lack experience and vision compared to those of 8x. 

For the former, everything must be as fast as the way they swipe their smartphones but the latter are quite calm and wait for most of the things, as a result, it is extremely important and impossible for a company in creative innovation to live without the complementarity between of 9x and 8x people, Christy Trang Le stressed. 

People of 9x generation are usually stereotyped as they do not care about the future and has several crazy ideas.However, according to Christy, these ideas might have huge values and may initiate the creativeness and innovation. 

When being asked about how different generation help each other overcome weaknesses in a company, Christy Trang Le shared her experience of the time working at Misfit, a Silicon Valley startup that developed and marketed wearables and smart home technology products, when she learned that humility is the most important thing. 

Because one person cannot build up a company himself, the humility among people in a startup may help them work non-competitively and work with each other, overcoming difference to complementing each other’s differences and see their colleague’s abilities when it comes to general issues, the CEO of GoViet said.
She also elaborated that the inquiring mind is also the added points of applicants to work in startup firms.
Besides, Trang also gave her views regarding ages of mentors and mentees in some startup firms. She believed that age is only the digit, the spirit is more important in the work environment. A fresh mentee can enhance and gain as much experience as a mentor, who has 20 years of experience providing that he may absorb and has inquiring mind when working in an effective environment and to be created motivation and opportunities to develop.
