The project is part of Ho Chi Minh City smart-tourism development strategy program.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, in the coming time, the department will conduct a QR code scanning pilot project at 20 tourist destinations in the city, mainly free of charge.
Holidaymakers can use smart phone scan a QR code to discover information, images and videos about Ho Chi Minh City. When a code is scanned, a list of tourist sites appears, making it easy for tourists to plan their next site visit in Ho Chi Minh City.
Head of the Information Technology Division under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao said that the project is a good choice for travelers who are not accompanied by a tour guide to Ho Chi Minh City.
Before going to Ho Chi Minh travel, holidaymakers always looking for information about the popular sites in the city such as Ben Thanh Market or Mong Bridge by the internet and find it difficult to gauge whether the information is correct. Thus, getting accurate information will become more convenient with the QR codes. Besides this, tourists will learn about the interiors of some sites that they cannot enter.
“The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism is working with application writers to conduct the pilot project in November, 2018 and adding that the project is scheduled to cover all tourist attractions citywide at the start of 2019” Thao added.
Earlier, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism has launched an application running on Android and IOS operating systems in two languages, English and Vietnamese, allowing tourists to look for information on the city’s tourism attractions.
