Hanoi Traditional Craft Village Tourism Festival 2016 to open tonight

The 2016 Hanoi traditional craft village tourism festival will be kicked off at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long on September 29. This year`s event is expected to bring much exciting experience to local residents and visitors

Themed “Hanoi - Quintessence of Vietnam's traditional crafts”, this year's festival will be organised at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long from September 29 to October 2.      
The festival aims to introduce traditional culture of Thang Long – Hanoi and contribute to preserving, honouring and developing traditional crafts.
It also makes an opportunity to promote tourism potential of the traditional craft villages and connect travel businesses with the villages.
Hanoi Traditional Craft Village Tourism Festival 2016 is a part of activities to celebrate 62nd anniversary of the Hanoi Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2016) and respond to the National Tourism Year 2016, Phu Quoc - Mekong Delta.
The festival area will be divided into several main sections to display the craft village space and art installations featuring traditional handicraft products, demonstrate the process of making traditional craft items, and introduce Hanoi craft villages and enterprises to viewers.
At the festival, the area of craft villages is designed to create characteristic cultural imprint of the capital, expressed through unique features from the gate, exhibit booths, as well as cuisine.
In the framework of the festival, a series of activities will be organised, including: exhibition; workshop on “Vietnam craft villages in association with tourism development and international integration”; cultural and art activities, making traditional handicraft products and folk games.
In addition to showcasing tourist products from Hanoi’s traditional craft villages, the four-day festival will also introduce visitors to Hanoian cuisine.
Exhibitions and seminars on developing tourism activities in Vietnam’s craft villages will also take place during the event, featuring the participation of tourist businesses, craft artisans and craftsmen.
Visitors can try their hand at making traditional craft products, take part in folk games and enjoy special cuisine in the three regions of country.
This year's festival draws the participation of traditional craft villages in Hanoi and many other localities with 250 booths, such as Phu Vinh rattan, Ha Thai lacquer, Quat Dong embroidery and Ngu Xa bronze.

Hanoi is home to more than 1,000 craft villages, 300 of which are recognised as traditional villages. The city has undertaken a number of measures to promote traditional craft products in tandem with development tourism.
During the festival, travel firms will introduce attractive tours on craft villages to visitors with prices reduced by 30%.
Visitors can also participate in sideline activities such as water puppetry, puppet land, calligraphy, ca tru, tug, human chess, ... or enjoy specialty cuisine in the 3 regions.
The event is expected to help attracting more visitors to typical villages of Hanoi in particular and the country in general.
At the festival, tourism businesses and related units will collaborate to create tours to Hanoi's craft villages and routes connecting Hanoi to provinces and cities across the country.
