Propose to commend and reward American painting Hanoi alleyway

During this month, it’s common scene to residents at 50th Hang Bac Street to see an American volunteering to repaint the old alley here.

From an old, dank alley inside Hang Bac Street, isolated from surrounding gold stores and crowded souvenir malls; it turned into a lively and cheerful corner. The skillful and meticulous hand of an American guy made it all.

The author to this work is Scott Matt. He volunteers to repaint the alleyway. His action has been praised by many people on the social media. Even though many support Matt, they also worry about the fact that he's breaking the laws.
Graduating with a bachelor degree in Business Engineering, Drexel University, Scott Matt nurtures dream of launching own company. However, the plan went bankrupt when the co-founder gave up. He then decided to come to Vietnam for the scenery and cheap living costs but had fell in love with the friendliness and hospitality here.

According to him, many foreign visitors to Vietnam just want to explore big streets; but forget the hidden gems in small alleys. He wants to change those perspective to old but attractive alleys of Hanoi.
The residents like the foreign man and said despite the language barrier, they still found ways to communicate and taught him Vietnamese.
Discussing with Hanoitimes on 14th April, Vice President of Hang Bac Ward’s People Committee Nguyen Thi Thu Huong revealed, local authority acknowledged the beautiful action of Scott Matt.
Recently, Hoan Kiem District’s People Committee has started to appraise good people with good action, contributing to make a better society, via local radio channel. Therefore, Hang Bac Ward leaders proposed to give Scott Matt with “Good People, Good Action” identifier, with Hoan Kiem District’s People Committee.
“Proposal of Hang Bac Ward’s People Committee to commend and reward the American man (Scott Matt) was submitted to Hoan Kiem District’s People Committee for approval”, said Mrs Huong to Hanoitimes reporter.
She also confirms,  Scott Matt was born in 1993, an US citizen living at a hostel in 50th Hang Bac alley during the past 3 months.
