General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong has asked agencies to further handle high-profile violations from now until the year-end in a bid to step up the fight against corruption.

Trong requested the agencies to bring to court two serious cases including that using Internet to conduct appropriation, gambling organization, illegal invoice trading, money laundering, and taking advantage of positions, powers while performing tasks; and taking advantage of positions and powers to appropriate public assets and deliberately violating state regulations on economic management, causing serious damage at DongA Bank.
At the meeting on Saturday of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption, the president asked the agencies to judge the case involving in military officer Dinh Ngoc He and his accomplices; prosecute a case relating to Phan Van Anh Vu in Danang and several localities; continue the investigation into organizations and individuals involving in Vu Quoc Hao and his accomplices at Agribank Financial Leasing Company No 2 (ALC II).

President Nguyen Phu Trong chairs the committee which began operations in 2013. Since then, authorized agencies have brought to light dozens of cases whose involvers are senior officials, significantly regaining public trust in the state’s anti-corruption efforts.
Since the previous meeting of the committee in April 2018, competent agencies have completed investigation of 11 cases involving in 151 people, issued prosecution to 193 defendants, and holding trials to 13 cases with 121 involvers.
