The army needs to thoroughly check the operations, missions, and personnel of its bodies, mostly vocational schools, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong said at a meeting on January 10.

He asked the army to keep an eye on the implementation of the reshuffle plans, especially on the management of the military land to prevent wrongdoings in the process.

Tthe military has undergone reshuffles since 2017 with the dissolution of dozens of bodies and a series of vocational schools, as well as the trimming down of more than 16,000 staff members.

In 2019, the military has been required to strengthen foreign relations to improve the defense missions which focus on sea and border protection and cyber security. The force was also required to prepare for  military conferences when Vietnam takes the chairmanship of the ASEAN in 2020.
