Tuoi Tre newspaper cited sources as saying that Mr. Trong will resume work this weekend.
Vietnam’s top leader Nguyen Phu Trong will be back to ofice soon after nearly two weeks of absence from media, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Intensive agenda and changing weather affected the health of comrade General Secretary [of the Communist Party of Vietnam], State President Nguyen Phu Trong. Comrade General Secretary, State President Nguyen Phu Trong will soon return to normal work,” said Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to a question of a foreign reporter at a press meeting Thursday.
Mr. Trong started a working visit to the Southernmost province of Kien Giang on April 13 before he would reach 75 years old on April 14. He was rumored to suffer a stroke on April 14 and has not been seen in media since then.
Tuoi Tre newspaper quoted the National Assembly’s Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan as saying at a meeting with voters in Can Tho city this afternoon that Mr. Trong’s health has stabilized and will be back to work soon.
The party chief fell sick because of changing weather conditions and much travel, Ngan added.
