At the start of the new lunar year, the first international flight of VN320 took off just 20 minutes after New Year's Eve, at 12:20 am on the first day of the Lunar New Year (February 16, 2018), carrying over 200 passengers from Ho Chi Minh City to Kansai (Japan). More than 5 hours later, the first domestic flight departed at 5:45 am, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the capital city Hanoi.
On February 16, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, Vietnam Airlines distributed tens of thousands of lucky gifts in the form of 9999 gold bars made from chocolate to passengers on regular international flights to/from the airports in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Through these special gifts of luck, Vietnam Airlines wanted to send customers New Year wishes for safety, good health, prosperity, joy and luck.
Vietnam Airlines has increased more than 1,100 flights for this lunar New Year occasion compared to the regular schedule, which falls on the last day of the past lunar year and the first 3 days of the new lunar year. The company has paid special attention to aircraft maintenance as well as flight scheduling for pilots and attendants to ensure 4-star quality service is delivered to satisfy passengers. Vietnam Airlines Customer Support Call Center 19001100 remains active throughout Tet, ready to answer inquiries from and provide support to customers around the clock.
In the peak of the period prior to the New Year’s Eve (from February 8-13) although the number of customers greatly increased with more than 65,000 passengers per day merely at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, Vietnam Airlines still performed at the rate of 90% of the flights being on time, which is an outstanding completion of its mission to connect and unite family members for people (on Tet occasion) across the country.
Earlier, in the evening of the last day of the closing lunar year (February 15, 2018), Nguyen Van The, Minister of Transport, and Khuat Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, visited staff of the Tan Son Nhat Airport and passengers on the final flight of 2017, sending along their new year wishes. Also on this last day, Vietnam Airlines recorded the company’s flights to close the Year of the Rooster were VN287 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City and VN11 from Ho Chi Minh City to Paris (France).
