PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has affirmed that Vietnam responds the event’s theme on Climate Change and the Oceans, and will try its best to contribute to the overall success of the expanded G7 Summit.
PM Phuc made the statement at his meeting with Canadian Governor General Julie Payette in Québec city on June 8, ahead of his participation in the G7 Outreach Summit.
Welcoming PM Phuc and his entourage to Canada, Governor General Payette hailed the significance of PM Phuc’s visit to Canada on the occasion of the 45th founding anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties.
Vietnam is a crucial partner of Canada in the region, she affirmed, adding that Canada expects to promote the friendship and long-term cooperation with Vietnam.
The Canadian Governor General spoke highly of Vietnam’s socio-economic performances during the renovation process and its active participation in the Francophonie community.
The two leaders asserted that the Vietnam-Canada Comprehensive Partnership serves as the framework for the two nations to strengthen cooperation, agreeing that both countries will intensify coordination at international and regional forums such as the United Nations, APEC, and Francophonie.
They also discussed and shared viewpoints on international and regional issues of mutual concerns.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides voiced support for ensuring security, safety and freedom of aviation and navigation, settling disputes through peaceful measures on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, respecting diplomatic and legal processes, fully implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and early concluding a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
PM Phuc took the occasion to invite Canadian Governor General Julie Payette to visit to Vietnam and she gladly accepted.
