Vietnam gives top priority to ASEAN in foreign diplomacy: FM

Vietnam will continue working with other member nations to implement effectively the ASEAN Community Vision to 2025 in the spirit of solidarity, dynamism, and creativity.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is one of the top priorities in Vietnam’s foreign diplomacy, stated Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh at a flag-hoisting ceremony in Hanoi to mark the 51st founding anniversary of the association on August 8.

The event was also attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai, and Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan.
In addition, the event took place in the presence of representatives of the ASEAN nations’ embassies, partners countries in Vietnam, and officials of Hanoi and Vietnamese ministries and sectors.
In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh stressed with the central role, solidarity, voice and influence of the ASEAN Community have become stronger with the expansion of multi-faceted relations with power countries, regional and global partners, to realize the common goal of peace, stability and equal and sustainable development.
The deputy PM emphasized that the foundation of the ASEAN Community in 2015 is a historic milestone in the connectivity process of ASEAN. He noted that with a population of over 630 million people, GDP of almost US$2.6 trillion in 2017, ASEAN is the driving force of the regional economy.

Minh said Vietnam considers ASEAN one of the top priorities in Vietnam’s foreign diplomacy, and Vietnam’s 23 year of membership in the bloc is closely associated with important milestones in its regional and international integration process.
“Vietnam will continue working with other member nations to implement effectively the ASEAN Community Vision to 2025 in the spirit of solidarity, dynamism, and creativity and with the extensive involvement and active contributions of people from all social strata,” Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh affirmed.
