Russia wants closer ties with Vietnam, President Vladimir Putin told visiting General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong during a meeting in Russia`s Sochi city.
The Russian president affirmed the progressively developing relations between Russia and Vietnam. “We are satisfied with the state of our interstate ties. We can by right qualify these relations as a strategic partnership”, said Putin.
The Russian leader also stressed the positive trends in political, economic, military and technical cooperation.
Showing gratefulness to the Russian side’s warm welcome of Vietnam delegation, Trong agreed that this visit was taking place at a time when bilateral relations are developing consistently in all areas.
Trong also affirmed that the visit is to further strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.
In the meeting, both leaders focused on major guidelines and solutions to create new momentum for the Vietnam-Russia ties in all areas, agreed on driving the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership into a deeper and more effective manner.
Specifically, the two leaders reached concensus that both sides would maintain meetings, high-ranking delegation exchanges, political consultation, strategic dialogues via channels of Party, government, national assembly, agencies, local government, as well as continue to reinforce the political trust, basing on which the bilateral ties would expand.
Both sides consented to collaborate for the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Agreement on friendly relations between Vietnam and Russia in 2019 and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in 2020.
In terms of economic-trade cooperation, both sides were pleased with the rapid development of the Vietnam-Russia ties, especially since the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and Eurasian Economic Union came into force.
Hence, both sides agreed to foster solutions to exploit the Vietnam- EAEU FTA; encourage projects of energy, oil, agriculture, urban development, information and telecommunication, etc.
