PM arrives in New York for UN General Assembly meeting

Vietnam`s prime minister will speak at the UN General Assembly session and highlight the priorities for national cooperation in the time ahead.

A Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City on September 27 (Vietnam time) for the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, according to the government portal.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc and Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietmam to the UN Dang Dinh Quy welcomed the PM and delegation at the airport.

Initially President Tran Dai Quang was due to attend this event, according to Hanoitimes' sources. President Quang, however, passed away on September 21 and was buried at his home town in Ninh Binh province on September 27.

Under the program, PM Phuc will deliver a speech at the high-level general debate at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly and attend a seminar with US businesses on investing in Vietnam amidst the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

In addition, PM Phuc will meet with leaders of the UN General Assembly, the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Cuban State Council, the Presidents of Fiji and Croatia, and the Prime Ministers of Saint Lucia and Bulgaria.

He will also meet a number of US friends, officials of the Vietnam Permanent Mission to the UN and the Vietnamese community in New York.

The 73rd session of the UN General Assembly is taking place from September 25 to October 1 with the theme "Making the UN close to everyone". Delegates will discuss global leadership experience and the community's responsibility in maintaining peace, justice and social stability.
