Vietnam aims to turn tourism into a spearhead economic sector: PM

Vietnam has a stable socio-political environment which ensures security and safety for visitors, as well as many tourist attractions.

Vietnam set the goal of achieving 30% growth in the number of tourists each year and turning tourism into a spearhead economic sector, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The PM made the statement at the reception in Hanoi on October 31 for Greg Norman, an Australian citizen who has just been appointed as Tourism Ambassador of Vietnam for the 2018-2021 tenure.

PM Phuc expected that Greg Norman would give more ideas to help Vietnam's tourism industry develop and attract more international visitors.

Appreciating Greg Norman’s experience, the PM expressed his belief that he will help increase foreign tourist arrivals in Vietnam and promote the country’s image to the world.

Phuc emphasized that Vietnam has a stable socio-political environment which ensures security and safety for visitors, as well as many tourist attractions.

In particular, Vietnam has applied measures to improve administrative procedures, creating favorable conditions for international visitors to come and stay in the country, he noted.

For his part, Greg Norman expressed his impression on the development of Vietnam’s tourism sector and committed to offer more ideas to develop Vietnam’s tourism.

Not only to promote Vietnam’s images and attractive tourist destinations, Greg Norman wishes to be a bridge to encourage tourism businesses to invest in the country.

Appreciating Norman’s proposals, PM Phuc assigned ministries and agencies to work closely with the new tourism ambassador to successfully promote Vietnam’s tourism to the world.

The PM also asked Norman to actively support Vietnam in other fields such as promoting Vietnamese coffee products and developing infrastructure and finance.
