Phuc made the statement in a meeting discussing the preparation process for the summit with related government agencies on February 19.

Phuc stressed this is an important international event, which is at the center of worldwide attention.

Following a series of world events hosted by Vietnam, including the APEC 2017, WEF ASEAN 2018, Vietnam being chosen as the host for the second US – North Korea summit would cement the country’s status on the world stage, while showing Vietnam’s active and responsible role in addressing global issues, Phuc continued.

The PM expected the safety to be at the highest level, along with other requirements for the success of the summit, at the same time ensuring the best possible conditions for international reporters working during the event in Hanoi.

This is also a valuable opportunity for Vietnam to promote its friendly image and economic achievements to the world community, and favorable conditions to attract investment and tourism opportunities, as well as trade facilitation.

Moreover, as the event would take place on the occasion of Hanoi marking 20 years of UNESCO recognition as “City for Peace”, the PM added that the capital should take this opportunity to showcase its diverse cultural aspects and peace-loving image to the world, in addition to the huge potential of development.

In a tweet on Twitter on February 9, US President Donald Trump confirmed the US-North Korea summit will be hosted in Hanoi on February 27-28.
