A street carnival themed “The Quintessence of Hanoi - Confluence and Shine” was held around Hoan Kiem Lake in the centre of Hanoi on July 29 on occasion of Hanoi’s 10th anniversary of border expansion.
The event was organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports in coordination with the Centre for Preservation and Development of Vietnamese Stage Arts.
With the participation of more than 5,000 people parading around Hoan Kiem Lake and surrounding areas, the carnival attracted a large number of Hanoians as well as tourists.
Dancers and music filled the streets as the carnival made its way up around Hoan Kiem Lake, passing by Ly Thai To Square, Ba Kieu Temple, Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, the Ba Trieu - Hang Khay intersection, and the Hang Bai - Trang Tien intersection.
In particular, the parade groups comprised of thousands of artisans, folk performing artists, elderly people and students in the city with interesting performances of traditional dances and costumes.
In addition, the Aodai (Vietnamese traditional long dress) performance was a perennial highlight of the event with new collections by popular designers of Hanoi.
Hanoi has undergone remarkable changes over the past ten years since the expansion of its administrative boundaries.
After the expansion, the capital has maintained a high annual economic growth rate. The annual gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth averaged 7.41% per year. Many indicators have increased from twice to three times such as farmers’ per capita income up 2.92 times, the budget collection in the city up 2.93 times.
