Hanoi to host artificial intelligence day next month

In Vietnam, Artificial Intelligence is listed among advanced technologies for prioritized investment and considered a spearheaded factor of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

The 2019 Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Day (AI4VN) is scheduled to take place from August 15 to 16 in Hanoi with a view to promoting Artificial Intelligence (AI) development in Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy said at a press conference on July 31.

The AI Day is expected to become one of the foundations and motivations to promote AI technology development in Vietnam via connecting members of the ecosystem like research institutes, technology companies, and startups, Duy stressed.

He added that in the world and in Vietnam, AI is listed among advanced technologies for prioritized investment and considered a spearheaded factor of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Many countries have begun putting their efforts on the impending development trend with the technology which is expected to have huge impacts on all aspects of society, economics, military, and politics, Duy noted.

He emphasized that Vietnam has not yet acquired sufficient resources to focus on developing completely new technology such as AI, which requires the support of individuals, businesses and research units.

According to Ta Hai Tung, director of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology under Hanoi University of Science and Technology, AI makes the systems smarter and meets the needs of many users, adding that in the trend of digital transformation, AI and Big Data will create more value and convenience in the future.

Within this context, the AI4VN 2019 is expected to provide a foundation and impetus to the development of AI technology nationwide through strengthening connectivity among agencies such as research institutes, universities, businesses, technological groups, and the start-up community.

The AI4VN this year will consist of a series of workshops on AI in tourism, health, education, and finance, among others, and is expected to draw the participation of some 2,000 Vietnamese and foreign experts, businessmen and researchers.

Six reports from the world’s leading speakers in the field of AI, technology, and start-ups such as Dr. Ulli Waltinger of Siemens, Associate Professor Stefano Ermon from Stanford University in the United States and the co-founder of Angry Bird, Peter Vesterbacka will be presented at the two-day event.

Especially, the opening session on August 15 will see a roundtable discussion among the leading technological CEOs in Vietnam including those from FPT and VinAI on the future development of the nation’s AI industry and solutions on how to spur growth in the sector.
