Several activities to marks 20th anniversary of Hanoi being recognized as City for Peace
In 1999, Hanoi was the only Asia Pacific country granted this title by the UNESCO.
The Hanoi People’s Committee has approved a plan to organized many activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the city’s recognition as City for Peace by the UNESCO General Assembly.
Accordingly, on July 13, the Hanoi People’s Committee will organize a ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the city’s recognition as City for Peace at Ly Thai To square in its heart. Besides the art program, Hanoi will host a charity walk for peace, which expects to attract nearly 5,000 people. On this occasion, Hanoi also announce a plan on building “Hanoi - creative city” dossiers to apply to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
In addition, the Hanoi People’s Committee also organize several cultural and sport activities, including two night music concerts with the theme “I Love Hanoi”, “Light Up Peace Signs” at Ly Thai To square from July 13 to 14; exhibition space for the embassies in Hanoi in Le Thach street from July 13 to 14; art activities for Bai Choi, Nhac Nha Cung Dinh Hue, Ca Tru in Ly Thai To square from July 13 to 14, and Hanoi cuisine space.
Hanoi will also organize exhibitions, including photo exhibition “Hanoians with elegance and civilization” in July and September, photo exhibition “Peace Diary” at Hoa Lo Prison in July and September, seminar with the theme “Hanoi – City for Peace – 20 years of integration and development”, etc.
In 1999, Hanoi was among five cities in five continents presented with the “City for Peace” award by the UNESCO that recognized its contributions to the struggle for peace as well as its development that meet the organization’s standards of equality in the community, the urban construction, living environmental protection, culture and education promotion, and care for young generations.
