Hanoi strives to fix storm consequences

Hanoi`s authorities and people are making great efforts to overcome the aftermaths of the Son Tinh storm that hit the north central region of Vietnam last week.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Van Suu on July 23 signed the official telegraph No.2 on overcoming the aftermaths of the Son Tinh storm and actively responding to the floods in the time ahead.

Accordingly, municipal People's Committees are request to urgently inspect and review of the flood situation in their territories, focus on restoring production, general environmental sanitation in schools, population quarters, health stations that were submerged.

In addition, it is necessary to help families, especially households in difficult circumstances, early overcome the consequences of rain and flood and stabilize life. 

At the same time, the authorities take initiative in allocating local budgets to support the people in overcoming the consequences according to the government's decree No.02 dated January 9, 2017.

Besides the task of stabilizing people's life, departments and localities need to concentrate on checking and reviewing the dikes, irrigation works and key flood and storm prevention points.

Moreover, it is necessary to sum up and evaluate the quantity and quality of the city’s reserved materials, the situation of stockpiling the materials, natural disaster prevention at all levels and branches; then sending report to the city according to regulations.

The Hanoi Department of Health coordinates localities to synthesize environmental sanitation.

The Hanoi Department of Construction overcomes the consequences of house damages, flooding in the inner city.

The Hanoi Power Company repairs the power system, provides sufficient power to perform disaster recovery tasks.

Hanoi Drainage and Sewerage Limited Company actively implements the urban drainage plan.

At the same time, five irrigation companies concentrate on operating the system of irrigation works for the suburban area, especially farmers’ newly-transplanted rice fields.

The Son Tinh storm landed on Vietnam's northern and north central regions on July 19, causing heavy rains and flooding and killing some two dozens of people. Until now, several districts in Hanoi remain under water.
