EVN supports victims in Laos’ dam collapse

Vietnamese organizations are willing to support Lao to tackle consequences of the collapse of the Xe Pian-Xe Nam Noy hydropower dam in Attapeu province on July 23.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) donated VND1 billion (US$43,000) to help Lao people overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives after the collapse of the Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydropower dam.

The aid was handed over to a delegation of Lao inspection officials led by Deputy Prime Minister and Government Inspector General Buonthong Chitmany, during the delegation’s visit to EVN in Hanoi on July 27.

At the reception, EVN’s leaders extended their sympathies for the human and property losses caused by the collapse of the hydropower dam.

For his part, Bounthong Chitmany sincerely thanked the EVN for its encouragement and timely assistance in addressing the consequences of the dam collapse incident.

At the meeting, senior leaders of the Lao Government Inspectorate and delegates listened to the EVN’s report on achievements over the past years as well as the group’s recent performance.

In addition, delegates of the two countries at the meeting discussed cooperation contents in the electricity field between Vietnam and Laos in the past and cooperation prospects in the future.

On the occasion, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Bounthong Chitmany and senior delegation also visited the EVN National Load Dispatch Center.
