“Congratulations to Vietnam over the championship. The Vietnamese football team’s performance was so sensational,” the ambassador said at the “South Korean Entrepreneur CSR Night” in Hanoi on December 17.

“Head coach Park Hang-seo has turned Vietnam and South Korea into a family. Some people say that Mr. Park Hang-seo is the South Korean ambassador here. I 100% agree,” Kim Do-hyon said in Vietnamese with a big smile.

“I would like to see Vietnam compete at the World Cup someday,” he added.

Vietnam defeated Malaysia 1-0 last weekend and 3-2 on aggregate to crown champions of AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 for the first time since its first cup in 2008.

Earlier South Korean President Moon Jae-in also extended his congratulations to Vietnam on winning the second ever AFF Cup trophy, in both Korean and Vietnamese languages via his Facebook account.

“I would like to warmly congratulate Vietnam’s national team led by Park Hang-seo on clinching the overall title at the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup. While witnessing the image of Vietnamese fans waving the Vietnamese and South Korean flags in the final return leg, I had a feeling that the two countries have become increasingly close friends via football,” said the president.

“I am very happy as such a glorious achievement was made by Park Hang-seo and his Vietnamese players, whom I directly met on the training field during my state visit to Vietnam in March. I look forward to seeing more of their nice images in the future. I do hope that Vietnam and South Korea will continue fostering special friendship and together open up a bright future of mutual prosperity”, said Moon.
