Switzerland seeks stronger business ties with Hanoi

Hanoi's mayor pledged that the city will always create the best conditions for European businesses, including Swiss ones.

Swiss businesses hope Hanoi’s government to facilitate help with opportunities to cooperate and invest in the capital city, Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam Ivo Sieber told Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung at a meeting on March 10.

Ivo Sieber is proud of the ties between Hanoi and his country’s capital city of Bern and that Switzerland is among the first European countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

Ivo Sieber also hoped that in the time ahead, the two sides will cooperate on education and sustainable urban development, banking and finance, startup support, among others.

To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, many activities and artistic programs will be held in Hanoi. Therefore, the ambassador hoped that the local government will support and facilitate the Swiss embassy to make those events successful.

For his part, Hanoi mayor Nguyen Duc Chung emphasized that Hanoi always attaches importance to cooperative relations with Switzerland’s localities.

Briefing the guest on Hanoi’s socio-economic development, Chung said that Hanoi still faces many difficulties and challenges such as limited resources for investment in social development, especially transportation infrastructure, environmental pollution, water source management, high-qualified human resources training, among others.

The Hanoi mayor hopes that Ambassador Ivo Sieber will be a "bridge" for the cooperation in cultural exchange, trade, healthcare, education and investment between Hanoi and Swiss localities, especially Swiss companies and technology corporations in the fields of IT equipment and smart city building.

Acceding to the ambassador’s proposal on holding commemorating events, Chung affirmed that Hanoi city is always willing to cooperate with the Swiss embassy to organize activities to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Hanoi will participate in culinary demonstration and cultural performances to be held by the embassy.

The Hanoi mayor also agreed to enhance investment promotion and pledged that Hanoi will always create the best conditions for European businesses, including those from Switzerland, especially in the fields of health and education.
