New regulations on recognition conditions of tourist destinations

A tourist resort will be recognized as a national tourist resort if it has at least two tourism resources, including a national-level resource, and has a definite boundary on the topographic map certified by an authorized agency.

This is one of the key contents of the Decree detailing some articles of the Tourism Law issued by the Government.

National tourist resorts should have high-quality infrastructure, technical facilities, and services to meet the accommodation and food demand. Shopping, sports, entertainment centers, and other facilities must reach standards for at least 500,000 visitors per year; the system of tourist accommodation establishments must serve at least 300,000 tourists per year, tourist accommodation establishments classified four-star, according to the decree.
In addition, national tourist resorts must be connected to national transportation and telecommunications systems, meeting conditions on security, social order and safety, and environmental protection.
The conditions for recognition of tourist destinations include: Having tourist resources, with boundaries determined on topographic maps certified by competent agencies. The scale of the map depends on management requirements and the specific topography.
Additionally tourist areas must be equipped with the necessary infrastructure and services to serve tourists, including good transport and communication system; electricity, clean water; signboards and explanations about the tourist area; food services and shopping mall booth. At the same time, tourist sites must meet conditions on security, social order and safety, and environmental protection.
The Vietnamese tourism industry will take drastic and synchronous measures in 2018 to reach the target of receiving 15-17 million international tourists, and will also aim to serve 78 million domestic visitors, earning a total revenue of VND620 trillion (US$27.31 billion), the Government said at a recent online meeting with cities and provinces nationwide.
Vietnam received a record high 12.9 million foreign visitors in 2017, a year-on-year increase of 29.1%. Of the total, 10.9 million tourists arrived by plane, while 1.8 million people came on land. About 258,800 visitors came to the nation by seaway, according to a report published by the General Statistics Office.
