With the aim to attract more foreign tourists to Vietnam and HCM City in particular, the 12th International Travel Expo HCM City 2016 (ITE-HCMC) will be organised in the southern metropolis from September 8-10.
According to the organising board, the event is expected to attract 270 stalls and nearly 200 foreign buyers, including travel operators from Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar.
Nearly 30,000 visitors are expected to participate in the event, up 20-30 percent from 2015.
Specially, during this year's event, for the first time, famous travel bloggers from Denmark, France, Finland, Norway and the UK will be invited to share their experience in promoting tourism on social networks.
In additiion, seminars discussing tourism markets from Russia, North America, Australia and New Zealand, as well as five Mekong downstream river cities, and a responsible tourism forum are also planned.
The annual Mekong Tourism Award will honour travel firms from Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar to recognise their contributions to tourism.
This year’s award will go to three new categories, including the tourism website of the year, the television programme on tourism promotion of the year and the cultural-tourism festival of the year.
Held for the first time in 2005, ITE-HCMC is considered as the forum for domestic enterprises to introduce tourism products and services, focusing on 6 key segments: leisure tourism, luxury tourism, MICE tourism, wellness and health tourism, study tourism and cosmetic tourism.
In the past 11 years, the expo has made many opportunities for major tourism cities of Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Vientiane, Yangon and HCM City to link up with each other.
After 11 times of organization, ITE-HCMC has increasingly affirmed its position as one of the largest and most prestigious tourism events in Vietnam and also Mekong Sub-region.
