Thousands of lanterns to light up in Hoi An for New Year celebration

Visitors attending the art show “Memoirs of Hoi An” in Hoi An ancient town on December 31 will have a chance to be presented with a lantern.

The 3,000 lanterns, 50 colorful balloons and fireworks are expected to light up in Hoi An ancient town, Quang Nam province for the first time to celebrate 2019 New Year’s Eve.

Accordingly, visitors attending the art show “Memoirs of Hoi An” in Hoi An ancient town on December 31 will have a chance to see lanterns and join in count down party to welcome the New Year in the world's heritage town.
The events will take place at Hoi An Impressive Park on December 31. The organizazing board said activities will start from late afternoon with folk games, cuisine and old architectural space visit.
On this occasion, Hoi An will hold a ceremony to welcome the last foreign holidaymaker to Quang Nam province in 2018.
Earlier, Hoi An ancient town in Quang Nam province has been named among the best places to finish the year with some sun, according to inews.co.uk, a British newspaper owned and published by Johnston Press.
According to the British newspaper, Hoi An has everything, including heritage architecture, a superb food scene and a string of perfect beaches. An Bang, about 5km (an easy bike ride) from the center, is the one to go for. “Recover from a hard day at the beach with dinner – as a historical trading town, there are Chinese, Japanese and Portuguese influences on the food”, the British medium recommended.
In 2017, Hoi An received 3.2 million tourists, a year-on-year increase of 21.66%, according to Quang Nam province's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The figure comprises 1.78 million foreigners and 1.44 million domestic ones. As many as 2.38 million tourists visited Hoi An Ancient Town, up 28.16%, and 400,000 ones went to Cu Lao Cham Island.
