In 2018, Can Tho welcomed more than 40 million visitors, a 17% increase against 2017.
The 2019 Vietnam International Travel Mart – Can Tho (VITM – Can Tho) is scheduled to take place in the Mekong Delta city from November 29 to December 1, and expected to draw the participation of 300 booths of Vietnamese and foreign travel companies, Vietnam News Agency reported, citing Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association Vu The Binh at a press conference on June 19.
The event is organized by the Vietnam Tourism Association in coordination with Can Tho's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
According to Vu The Binh, the event aims to promote the best destinations in Mekong Delta, as well as green tourism and eco-tourism packages. The expo’s highlight will be a conference to seek measures to turn the Mekong Delta region and Can Tho into a leading tourist hub of Vietnam.
Speaking at a press conference, Director of the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Viet Phuong said that over the past years, the city's tourism has been growing strongly, contributing significantly to local economic growth.
In 2018, Can Tho welcomed more than 4 million visitors, a 17% increase from the same period last year, with total revenue of more than VND24 trillion (US$1.03 billion), a surge of 30% year-on-year.
The southern localities have shown close connection in tourism. The Mekong Delta Tourism Association has so far developed 12 national tourist sites typical for the region.
With the engagement of regional provinces as well as Vietnamese and foreign travel firms, the Can Tho International Travel Mart is hoped to become an outstanding annual tourism event in the Mekong Delta region.
