Vietnam actively responds to UN initiative on climate change

The statement was made by Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Pham Khoi Nguyen at the 13 th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention o­n Climate Change (COP 13) and the 3 rd Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 3) in Bali, Indonesia , o­n December 13.

 

Minister Nguyen, who was also head of the Vietnamese delegation to the conference, said Vietnam is o­ne of developing countries which will be subject to negative impacts of climate change, especially the rising sea water level, in the 21 st century.

 

Being fully aware of the risk, the Vietnamese Prime Minister has approved a plan to implement the Kyoto Protocol in the 2007-2010 period, he noted.

 

During the conference, the Vietnamese delegation took part in negotiations o­n protecting legitimate rights of developing countries and strengthening capacity and technology transfer for the sustainable development, and discussed the implementation of the clean development mechanism (CDM).

 

Minister Nguyen also joined other heads of Francophone countries to talk o­n climate and development initiatives.
