Vietnam to grasp opportunities from neighboring countries’ production resumption: PM

Vietnam aims to achieve the dual target of containing the Covid-19 epidemic and maintaining high economic growth, stressed Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

As neighboring countries such as China, South Korea and Japan are expected to resume production and business soon, Vietnam must grasp this opportunity to overcome current difficulties, according to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Vietnam must aim for a dual target of containing the Covid-19 epidemic and maintaining high economic growth, Phuc said at a meeting with representatives of major privately-run corporations on March 12.

The government shares hardship with the business community and is willing to address their concerns, Phuc said, adding the private sector remains a key driving force for the economy.

Phuc stressed the government would continue to improve the business environment, including the creation of new markets and stabilizing macro-economic conditions.

With nearly 800,000 enterprises and millions of household businesses, Phuc expected each one to become a “fortress” in preventing the spread of the epidemic, in turn contributing to the overall efforts of the whole country.

Phuc lauded some corporations for adopting Industry 4.0 technologies in operations and provided support for employees.

Phuc asserted his assurance of providing sufficient essential goods for the people, requesting the business community to lend a hand in keeping the flow of goods and refraining from raising prices.

On March 6, the PM signed a directive stipulating the deployment of a credit package worth VND250 trillion (US$10.86 billion) and a fiscal stimulus package of VND30 trillion (US$1.3 billion) to help businesses cope with the Covid-19 epidemic.
