In the phone talk with Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Trong thanked the country for its support and solidarity given to Vietnam in the wars and over the past time, especially at international forums.

Trong said Vietnam stands ready to share the experience with Sri Lanka in the fight against Covid-19.

He suggested the two countries should step up all-level meetings and exchanges and utilize existing mechanisms to promote collaboration in politics, economy, investment, trade, agriculture, national defense and security, science-technology, culture, and education.

"The two nations should continue with mutual consultations and support at regional and international organizations," Trong said.

President Rajapaksa said Sri Lanka wants to continue to back Vietnam at international forums and forge their cooperation to overcome challenges facing both, such as Covid-19 and climate change.
