Deputy PM welcomes Japanese ambassador

The Vietnamese Government is committed to using Japan’s official development assistance (ODA) in a correct and effective manner.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh told Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Hiroshi Fukada at a March 25 reception in Hanoi.

Minh reiterated the Vietnamese Government and people’s high appreciation for the Japanese support for the country’s national construction and development through ODA projects.

Host and guest also greatly valued President Truong Tan Sang’s recent State visit to Japan, saying that they will work closely to carry out what was achieved during the visit.

Concerning the suspected misuse of Japanese aid, which involves Japan Transportation Consultants Inc. and the Hanoi City Urban Railway Construction Project (Line 1), FM Minh said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has directed Vietnamese relevant agencies to promptly investigate and closely coordinate with the Japanese side during the investigation.

He also asked the Japanese side to provide necessary information as soon as possible together with Vietnam to clarify the case.

Ambassador Fukada, in return, hailed Vietnam’s prompt actions as well as the collaboration of the Vietnamese Government, ministries and sectors and pledged to work closely with Vietnam to deal with the case.
