In the coming September 05, students in Hanoi and across the country will go on a new academic year 2017-2018.

In the previous academic year, Hanoi continue to achieve many positive results and on top of the country in term of quality education. What is the most important results obtained in the previous academic year?

Some of the positive results from the previous academic year were: the scope of education is stable and continue to be developed; the network of schools and classes is expanded, infrastructure is invested and modernized, meeting the demands of citizens and requirements for human resources training in new era. The management aspect is also progressed thanks to the decision and instruction from Hanoi’s leaders. For example, Hanoi has built 26 schools at 13 districts with total investment of 600 billion VND (equivalent to 30 million USD).

Besides, teachers and educational staffs continued to be improved, both in term of quality and quantity. Examination process is refined, as the education system has implemented software supporting online registration for preschools, primary schools and middle schools across the city. This is one again emphasized the government’s determination in applying IT into administrative reform, in turn contributing to the transparency and creating favorable conditions for citizens.

However, there remains the lack of schools, classes for students. In this school year, what is Hanoi going to do to solve this problem?

Hanoi Training & Education Department has instructed districts and wards to prioritize land fund for school building. Moreover, the city continues with the program of solidifying schools and classes; focuses on removing degraded classes at all school levels; builds and upgrade toilets; plants new trees in school yard to create a friendly educational environment toward the objective of green – clean – beautiful. At the same time, Hanoi has requested new apartment or urban area to have plan of building schools. With regard to districts without any land fund left to build school, Hanoi Training & Education Department is consulting with the city to allow these school of building new floors with elevators.

In the academic year of 2017-2018, what are solutions for Hanoi to keep its leading position in quality education?

Teachers and educational staffs are essential in all activities and aspects. One of the most important tasks during this school year is to increase efficiency in training. In order to increase the quality of education, Hanoi has completed the training plan for teachers and educational staffs in Hanoi, in total more than 136,000 staffs and teachers have participated in the training. This is also the first year Hanoi organize training program for more than 91,000 managing staffs and teachers in 30 districts and wards. Besides training activities, the Department will increase monitor and check school activities to have timely instruction and adjustment with regard to occurring problems.

What is the preparation status for new school year? What is your message to teachers and students of Hanoi?

In previous school year, despite having some preliminary results, Hanoi education still have shortcomings. This is the inconsistent in the quality of teachers and educational staffs at districts and wards, as well as the problem of additional tutoring and financing problems. Some schools in central Hanoi have problem with space for students to study, thus unable to meet national standard. This requires Hanoi education to seriously address this matter and have solutions accordingly. As such, each teacher, staff and student have to join hand in tackle problems, contributing to the development of their own classes and schools.

At present, preparation for new school year has been completed. A new school year with new plan and objectives, I hope teachers and students put up effort with responsibilities, dedication and creativity in teaching studying, focusing on personality development over talents.

Thank you!
