Nations lying along the Mekong River need to guarantee the sustainable utilization of the River and the balance of economic development and environmental protection for the future and long-term benefits of the people.
Welcoming Ministers and heads of the delegations and development partners joining the 21st meeting of the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Council in Viet Nam, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai asserted Viet Nam’s viewpoints of regarding the Mekong River as the joint and valuable asset of nations around it.

He highly valued the reports of the Commission on the implementation of Ho Chi Minh City Declaration 2014, especially in terms of joint researches on the Mekong River sustainable development and management.
Secretary General of the Lao National Mekong River Committee Monemany Nhoybouakong affirmed the consent in using and managing the water resource and other resources sustainably in the Mekong River.
Delegates at the meeting continued and enhanced political commitment to implement the 1995 Mekong Agreement, Ho Chi Minh City Declaration and commitments on technical and financial assistance.
