The Euro Presse Image (EPI) ran an article on July 10 on the historic visit of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the United States, noting it came at a crucial time as the two countries celebrate the 20th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
The visit also represents the first time a leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam has made an official visit to the US, it said.
The agency quoted Professor Jonathan London from the University of Hong Kong in the Wall Street Journal that the historic visit is indicative of Vietnam’s strategic balance policy.
The visit covers both strategic and important trade issues as Vietnam is among twelve nations negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership, initiated by the US.
The website “7sur7.be” previously reported on the talk between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and US Senator John MacCain, a Vietnam War veteran.
