Foreign tourist arrivals to Vietnam rise 8.8% to 7.3 million in Jan-May

In May alone, Vietnam welcomed more than 1.3 million visitors, a 14.3% increase from the same period last year.

The number of foreign visitors to Vietnam in the first five-month of 2019 is estimated at nearly 7.3 million, up 8.8% against the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Of the total, visitors from Asia made up the lion’s share at 76.8%, or 5.6 million, up 9.9% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the number of tourists from Europe and America were estimated to have picked up by 5.9% and 4.9% from the same period of 2018, respectively.
In the five-month period, increases were recorded in the number of holidaymakers from almost all markets, particularly Thailand (47,5%), Taiwan (China) (26%), South Korea (22.4%), Malaysia (14.5%), Japan (13%), among others.
So far in 2019, the number of foreign tourists to Vietnam by air and road have recorded annual increases of 6.3% and 23.7%, respectively; while that of those coming by boats decreased by 17.5% year-on-year.
In May alone, Vietnam welcomed more than 1.3 million travelers, a 14.3% increase compared to May last year.
The country expects to welcome some 18 million international visitors this year, compared to 15.5 million in 2018.
Earlier, Vietnam has been named among enchanting destinations in Southeast Asia which one cannot afford to miss this year, according to Ceoworld Magazine, a magazine dedicated to business leaders and high net worth individuals worldwide.
The magazine advises travelers that to witness the pristine natural beauty, make sure Vietnam is part of the travel list. It is the most diverse destination in Southeast Asia with paddy fields to rocky hills. Vietnam is also an ideal destination for couples. Ho Chi Minh City is the obvious place to visit and also Halong Bay, a world heritage UNESCO site.
