Former Danang deputy mayor probed for involving in Vu nhom case
Tuan, 61, was accused of “infringing regulations on management of public assets, causing serious damage” and “breaking regulations on land management” under the Criminal Code.
Vietnam’s police have probed Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, former deputy chairman of the Danang People’s Committee, for some involvement in notorious property tycoon Phan Van Anh Vu, aka Vu "nhom”.
Tuan, 61, was accused of “infringing regulations on management of public assets, causing serious damage” and “breaking regulations on land management” under the Criminal Code.
On March 18, the police conducted home raid at Tuan’s house, VnExpress reported.
Tuan was director of the Danang Department of Construction before holding the position of deputy chairman in 2012.
In a report submitted to the prime minister, the Government Inspectorate suggested the PM to verify the role of Danang’s chairmen and deputy chairmen, agencies, and individuals who involved in the land transfer and management in the city between 2010 and 2016.
Earlier in April 2018, Danang’s former Chairmen Tran Van Minh and Van Huu Chien were probed for “infringing regulations on management of public assets, causing serious damage” and “breaking regulations on land management” under the Criminal Code.
Phan Van Anh Vu, a former police intelligence agent, was sentenced to a total of 24 years in jail for “influence peddling” and “deliberate disclosure of state secrets” under the Penal Code. He was believed to get a series of land lots in public land transfer in Danang and Ho Chi Minh City at low prices, causing losses worth VND1.2 trillion (US$50.4 million).
