Fostering Vietnam-Netherlands bilateral partnership

On April 19, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung met Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as part of his visit to the European country to chair the sixth meeting of the Vietnam-Netherlands Inter-Governmental Committee.

At the meeting, the Deputy PM congratulated the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy led by PM Mark Rutte on its success in the recent election, expressing his belief that the new administration will make the Netherlands more prosperous.

He noted the extensive and comprehensive development of the bilateral friendship and cooperation with the Netherlands becoming the leading European economic, trade and investment partner of Vietnam. Deputy PM Dung highly valued the sound affiliation between the two countries at international and regional organisations and forums.

He said he hopes that the Netherlands will continue supporting Vietnam in its national development as well as in implementing two strategic partnership agreements in climate change adaptation and sustainable agriculture development, while expanding bilateral ties in the areas of Netherlands’ strength such as shipping, maritime economy and energy.

For his part, PM Mark Ruttelauded Vietnam’s recent socio-economic achievements, and appreciated Vietnam’s active and positive international integration as well as its efforts in strengthening economic relations through bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements.

He affirmed that the Government and business community of the Netherland are interested in fostering economic, trade and investment partnership with Vietnam, and support the EU’s early signing and approval of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.

Highlighting that Vietnam is an important partner of the Netherlands in the Southeast Asian region, he reaffirmed his country’s position of supporting the stance of Vietnam and ASEAN in settling East Sea disputes.

The two sides also expressed delight at the effective activities to realise the bilateral strategic partnership in climate change adaptation and sustainable agriculture development. They will continue focusing on strengthening collaboration among localities, while supporting each other at international and regional forums.

They pledged to maintain the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially the high level, to deepen mutual understanding and trust. They agreed to create favourable conditions for enterprises of both sides to bolster their links, especially in prioritised sectors of climate change, water management, energy, maritime economy and logistics.
