Hanoi - Budapest to promote progress of cooperation projects

On the afternoon of January 19, Chairman of Hanoi People`s Committee Nguyen The Thao met and worked with the government delegation of Budapest (Hungary), led by Mayor István Tarlos, visiting and working in Vietnam.

City Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary in Vietnam – Ms. Torda Eszter and representatives of City’s departments also attended.

At the meeting, Chairman Nguyen The Thao congratulated the delegation's visit, have practical significance in the occasion of 65th anniversary of establishing Vietnam - Hungary diplomatic relations (February 3, 1950 - 2015). According to Chairman Nguyen The Thao, Hanoi is growing very fast, increasingly enhanced exchanges, cooperation and integration with the cities and regions around the world, including the capital city of Budapest, Hungary. In 2014, though more difficult context, Hanoi still achieves economic growth of 8.8%, higher than that in 2013 and more investment is being needed.

Budapest Mayor István Tarlos expressed his pleasure that Hanoi won the great achievements in socio-economic development. He said that the purpose of the delegation's visit is to promote the implementation of programs and projects signed between Hanoi and Budapest in 2013 and expanded cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, trade, tourism, etc. For treatment projects and water supply of the Red River in Hanoi (estimated capacity of 450,000 m3/day, divided into two phases, phase 1 of 2020 with 300 000 m3/day; phase 2 will be completed in 2030), Mayor István Tarlos Government Hungary agreed to grant the concessional loan of $300 million to implement the project. So far, the procedures related to the project, the basic functional departments have been completed. He believes that this project started in 2015 will be a meaningful gift in the 65th anniversary of establishing Vietnam - Hungary diplomatic relations.

Thanks for the support of the Government of Hungary for the Red River water project, Chairman Nguyen The Thao said the City will fully support investment solutions towards Budapest. He also stressed that Hanoi considers the project as the symbol of friendship and cooperation development between Hanoi and Budapest, as well as the two countries of Vietnam - Hungary.

According to Chairman Nguyen The Thao, the two countries have great potential for cooperation, the two sides will actively expand cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, education, commercial tourism, etc.

Concurred with the proposal, Budapest Mayor István Tarlos said in 2015, the Government has agreed to support doubled scholarships for Vietnamese students in Hungary; at the mean time supporting the highest level for the unit to participate in the International Tourism Fair 2015 held in Hanoi as well as "Vietnam Culture Days in Budapest", in commemoration of 65 years of Vietnam - Hungary diplomatic relations in 2015.
