Hanoi gains experience in urban development after summit

The experience learned from both the poorer countries and the richer ones, can be applied in reality during Hanoi`s development process.

After the second US-North Korea summit held on February 27-28, Hanoi has gained certain experience and drawn valuable lessons in urban planning and development.

Urban development in accordance with market mechanism

Architect Hoang Huu Phe, an expert on urban planning and development said: "Hanoi has gained many achievements in planning, construction and development in the past 20 years. That enterprises and private economic sectors are allowed to participate in urban planning and construction contributed significantly to creating today’s urban facelift for Hanoi.”

He added that the second US-North Korea summit in Hanoi is an opportunity to introduce the capital’s image to international friends, so that they know what Hanoi has done in the process of building a hub city, although it has experienced many ups and downs during the history.

Building public works

According to Tran Tuan Anh, an expert in urban information planning, the US is one of the leading countries in urban planning and development, as well as building smart cities.

Anh noted that smart cities have provided the American people with the best, modern and convenient public utilities. Besides, smart cities are also actively contributing to protecting people's living environment from the impact of industrialization.

“Although I have not yet been to North Korea, I know that the country has built a relatively sophisticated urban network, it is still looking for its own direction in the face of the economy’s difficulties and it has always attached importance to the public interests. Hanoi can completely learn and draw experience in the process of the city’s urban building and development," Anh said.

Urban construction from social resources

Master Dinh Quoc Thai, an expert in urban management said: "I think this is a very good opportunity for Hanoi in the process of urban planning and development in the coming time."

Thai stressed the experience learned from both the poorer countries and the richer ones can be applied in reality during the city’s development process.

Hanoi has a good foundation, that Vietnam has integrated to the world, which has facilitated its capital to mobilize social resources in the process of urban development. The city’s leaders should grasp the benefits in the time ahead, Thai added.
